    The act of reducing to any state, as of mixing two bodies completely, or beating any thing to a very small powder.

    Etymology: subactus, Latin.

    There are of concoction two periods: the one assimilation, or absolute conversion and subaction; the other maturation; whereof the former is most conspicuous in living creatures, in which there is an absolute conversion and assimilation of the nourishment into the body.
