Wikipedia

  1. Soy milk

Soy milk (simplified Chinese: 豆浆; traditional Chinese: 豆漿) also known as soya milk or soymilk, is a plant-based drink produced by soaking and grinding soybeans, boiling the mixture, and filtering out remaining particulates. It is a stable emulsion of oil, water, and protein. Its original form is an intermediate product of the manufacture of tofu. Originating in China, it became a common beverage in Europe and North America in the latter half of the 20th century, especially as production techniques were developed to give it a taste and consistency more closely resembling that of dairy milk. Soy milk may be used as a substitute for dairy milk by individuals who are vegan or are lactose intolerant. Soy milk is also used in making imitation dairy products such as soy yogurt, soy cream, soy kefir and soy-based cheese analogues. It is also used as an ingredient for making milkshakes, pancakes, smoothies, bread, mayonnaise, and baked goods.

Wikidata

  1. Soy milk

Soy milk is a beverage made from soybeans. A traditional staple of Asian cuisine, it is a stable emulsion of oil, water, and protein. It is produced by soaking dry soybeans and grinding them with water. Soy milk contains about the same proportion of protein as cow's milk: around 3.5%; also 2% fat, 2.9% carbohydrate, and 0.5% ash. Soy milk can be made at home with traditional kitchen tools or with a soy milk machine. Despite the terminology used by consumers, it is illegal to sell soy milk under that name in the European Union, where - with certain exceptions - EC Regulation has restricted the term 'milk' to mammary secretions since 1987; in such countries the term 'soy drink' is commonly used. The coagulated protein from soy milk can be made into tofu, just as dairy milk can be made into cheese.

Examples of soy milk in a Sentence

  1. Kranthi Kumar:

Soy milk has been on the market for decades, but there have been numerous reports which showed that people are moving away from soy milk primarily because of the taste.

  2. Jenna Stangland:

I think soy milk is one that would be OK, and tofu and tempeh and edamame. Again, those being more on the natural side, as we go into a lot of vegan and vegetarian products, like when they use that soy to make a meat patty and it's not just soybeans that are in there but it's also additional soy product to make it into a meat patty, then that's where I would say it's more processed.

  3. Vandana Sheth:

If we are talking about soy in its whole form such as edamame, tofu and whole soy milk, then it is healthier than meat in the sense that soy provides an excellent source of protein, fiber, vitamins and minerals — without the cholesterol and saturated fat found in meat.

  4. Victor Suarez:

Over the past 25 years, the government allowed corn, wheat, sorghum, soy, milk and other products to be imported below production costs.
