schizocarp
A schizocarp is a type of dry fruit produced by certain flowering plants that splits into separate one-seeded sections (called mericarps) at maturity, but while still inside the plant. However, these mericarps remain attached to one another and do not separate completely, like they would in other types of fruits. Examples of plants that produce schizocarps include members of the carrot or mint families.
