Ripping
Ripping is extracting all or parts of digital content from a container. Originally, it meant to rip music out of Commodore 64 games. Later, the term was used to extract WAV or MP3 format files from digital audio CDs, but got applied as well to extract the contents of any media, including DVD and Blu-ray discs, and video game sprites. Despite the name, neither the media nor the data is damaged after extraction. Ripping is often used to shift formats, and to edit, duplicate or back up media content. A rip is the extracted content, in its destination format, along with accompanying files, such as a cue sheet or log file from the ripping software. To rip the contents out of a container is different from simply copying the whole container or a file. When creating a copy, nothing looks into the transferred file, nor checks if there is any encryption or not, and raw copy is also not aware of any file format. One can copy a DVD byte by byte via programs like the Linux dd command onto a hard disk, and play the resulting ISO file just as one would play the original DVD. To rip contents is also different from grabbing an analog signal and re-encoding it, as it was done with early day CD-ROM drives not capable of digital audio extraction (DAE). Sometimes even encoding, i.e. digitizing audio and video originally stored on analog formats, such as vinyl records is incorrectly referred to as ripping.

ripping
Ripping refers to the process of copying or extracting data from one source, such as a CD, DVD, website, or software program, and converting it into a different format that can be used or stored on a different device or platform. This process is often used to create backup copies of media, condense file sizes, or change the compatibility of a file.

Ripping
Ripping is the process of copying audio or video content to a hard disk, typically from removable media such as compact disc or DVD, although the word refers to all forms of media. Despite the name, neither the media nor the data is damaged after extraction. Ripping is often used to shift formats, and to edit, duplicate or back up media content. Digital Audio Extraction is a more formal phrase applied to the ripping of audio CDs. A rip is the copied content, in its destination format, along with accompanying files. Ripping is distinct from simple file copying, in that the source audio or video often isn't originally formatted for ease of use in a computer file system; ripping such data usually involves reformatting it and optionally compressing it during the extraction process. The source material being ripped need not be digital; ripping can involve digitizing audio and video originally stored on analog formats, such as vinyl records.

I believe in serious debates on serious issues. I've known Hillary Clinton for 25 years. Maybe I shouldn't say this: I like Hillary Clinton. I respect Hillary Clinton, will the media, among others, allow us to have a civil debate on civil issues? Or is the only way you get media attention by ripping apart somebody else?

I believe that we have to end the divisive partisan politics that is ripping this country apart, and I think we can, it's mean-spirited, it's petty, and it's gone on for much too long. I don't believe, like some do, that it's naive to talk to Republicans. I don't think we should look at Republicans as our enemies. They are our opposition. They're not our enemies.
I am a firm believer in decorum, and I believe that we have seen a lack of it as our politics have become increasingly toxic during recent years, the State of the Union is not a time for theater, as Speaker Nancy Pelosi treated it by ripping up President Trump’s speech while directly behind him for the cameras. Congress is not a focus group, as both parties have acted while booing and chanting during presidential addresses for years now. It is also not a time for heckling, as Lauren unfortunately did last night.
We're not going to eradicate this coronavirus like we've done with smallpox ; it is something that I think is going to settle into a more seasonal pattern, like the flu and colds... but right now, because it's novel and so many people are not immune to it, it's really ripping through the population. But I think five years from now, we will have much greater immunity either through vaccination or natural infection.
