  1. riggs' disease

Riggs' disease, also known as periodontitis or pyorrhea, is a condition that affects the gums and other supporting structures around the teeth. This disease is characterized by inflammation and infection resulting in gum bleeding and often causes decay, foul breath, and eventually tooth loss due to the destruction of the surrounding tissue and bone. Named after John Mankey Riggs who discovered it, this condition is typically caused by poor oral hygiene allowing plaque to build up and harden into tartar, which can encourage bacterial growth. If left untreated, Riggs' disease can lead to more serious health problems such as heart disease. Treatment often includes professional dental cleaning and maintaining good oral hygiene habits.
