positron
A positron is a subatomic particle that has the same mass as an electron, but has positive electric charge - it's basically an anti-electron. Its existence was first proposed by physicist Paul Dirac in 1928 and it was discovered by Carl Anderson in 1932. Positrons are involved in many processes in physics, such as pair production and annihilation, and they're also used in medical imaging technology like Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scans.
Wikidata
Positron
The positron or antielectron is the antiparticle or the antimatter counterpart of the electron. The positron has an electric charge of +1e, a spin of ½, and has the same mass as an electron. When a low-energy positron collides with a low-energy electron, annihilation occurs, resulting in the production of two or more gamma ray photons. Positrons may be generated by positron emission radioactive decay, or by pair production from a sufficiently energetic photon.
