    "Pinger" is a term of derision once used at various U.S.A.F. tech training bases. It is usually applied to newly arrived airman from basic training, whose recently shaved heads of hair are just starting to grow back-- it "pings" out. Such individuals are easy to spot, and they are generally thought to be naive, awkward, and clueless as just having graduated from boot camp.

    "The Pinger arrived and as soon as he got off the bus, started to salute everything in sight, including the aircraft on static display at the main gate..."

    Etymology: United States Air Force. Term of derision. Refers to a recently arrived basic training graduated at tech school who is clueless, and whose recently shaved head of hair is starting to grow out...it "pings".
