ostwald
Friedrich Wilhelm Ostwald was a renowned German chemist who won the 1909 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his work on catalysis and theories related to chemical equilibrium and reaction velocities. However, "Ostwald" is often used in relation to the "Ostwald Process" or "Ostwald Ripening". The Ostwald Process is a technique for producing nitric acid, which is commonly used in fertilizers and explosives. Ostwald Ripening is a phenomenon in solid solutions or liquid sols that describes the change in an inhomogeneous structure over time, i.e., small particles dissolve, and larger ones grow even larger.
Wikidata
Ostwald
Ostwald is a lunar impact crater on the far side of the Moon. It lies just to the east of the crater Guyot, and near the northern border of Ibn Firnas. Recht lies along its eastern rim. This is a worn and eroded crater formation with an irregular rim and inner wall due to multiple small impacts. A brief crater chain forms a cleft in the western inner face. The interior is somewhat more level, but is pock-marked by a multitude of tiny craterlets. There are some low central ridges to the south and northeast of the midpoint.
