opisthocomus hoazin
The opisthocomus hoazin, commonly known as the hoazin, is a species of tropical bird found in swamps, riverine forest and mangrove of the Amazon and the Orinoco delta in South America. It is notable for its unique digestive system, which has an enlarged crop used for fermenting vegetation, similar to the way ruminants like cows digest their food. This gives the bird a unique, manure-like odor, hence its nickname, the "stinkbird". The hoazin is also known for its chicks, which possess clawed wings that they use for climbing trees before they are old enough to fly.
