One Step Ahead
One Step Ahead is a song by American soul singer Aretha Franklin. The single containing the song was released by Columbia Records in 1965. "One Step Ahead" was the A-side of the single, and peaked at #18 on the Hot Rhythm & Blues Singles chart. The B-side, "I Can't Wait Until I See My Baby's Face," was taken from her 1964 album Runnin' Out Of Fools. The single was released two years before Aretha achieved stardom when she joined Atlantic Records. "One Step Ahead" was not included on any of her Columbia studio albums, and remains one of her rarest releasesIn 1999, hip-hop producer Ayatollah sampled its chorus for the "Ms. Fat Booty" single he produced for Mos Def. The same vocal part was sampled by Clutchy Hopkins for his "Sleepers Never Dig, Diggers Never Sleep Bootleg" and High Contrast for his song "Remind Me".

"One Step Ahead" is the fourth single from the 1990 album Anything Is Possible by American singer-songwriter-actress Deborah Gibson. The LP Version was co-written with Lamont Dozier and co-produced with John "Jellybean" Benitez. This song was remixed for both the single and maxi single by "Little" Louie Vega and Kenny "Dope" Gonzales for Masters At Work Productions, Inc., rendering the Hot Radio Mix for 87677, A7677 and AMDY-5054, and at least the Masters At Work Mix for 86025. Although this single failed to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, it scored on the Billboard Hot Maxi Singles and Hot Dance chart, peaking at #21 and #18 respectively.
