    Oisín (pronounced [ɔˈʃiːnʲ, ˈɔʃiːnʲ], approximately ush-EEN, USH-een) is an Irish male given name; meaning "fawn" or "little deer", derived from the Old Irish word os ("deer") + -ín (diminutive suffix). It is sometimes anglicized as Osheen ( oh-SHEEN) or spelt without the diacritic (fada), as Oisin. Variants in other languages include Scottish Gaelic: Oisean (pronounced [ˈɔʃan]), Welsh: Osian and English: Ossian.

    Oisín, also spelt in English Ossian or Osheen, was regarded in legend as the greatest poet of Ireland, and is a warrior of the fianna in the Ossianic or Fenian Cycle of Irish mythology. He is the son of Fionn mac Cumhaill and of Sadhbh, and is the narrator of much of the cycle.
