    Essentially, this compound word, derived from Latin, means "it does not follow". Meaning that a particular thought is not related to a given premise.

    The statement "he must be gay; he never says hello to the ladies in his class" is non-sequitur. One cannot form the conclusion that a person is gay because that person does not say hello to persons of another gender - unless there are other factors that could be considered.
