U.S. National Library of Medicine
A flavoprotein and iron sulfur-containing oxidoreductase that catalyzes the oxidation of NADH to NAD. In eukaryotes the enzyme can be found as a component of mitochondrial electron transport complex I. Under experimental conditions the enzyme can use CYTOCHROME C GROUP as the reducing cofactor. The enzyme was formerly listed as EC 18.104.22.168.
NADH dehydrogenase (ubiquinone)
Complex I is an enzyme of the respiratory chains of myriad organisms from bacteria to humans. It catalyzes the transfer of electrons from NADH to coenzyme Q10 and, in eukaryotes, it is located in the inner mitochondrial membrane. It is one of the "entry enzymes" of cellular respiration or oxidative phosphorylation in the mitochondria.
