Wikipedia
Multitenancy
Software multitenancy is a software architecture in which a single instance of software runs on a server and serves multiple tenants. Systems designed in such manner are "shared" (rather than "dedicated" or "isolated"). A tenant is a group of users who share a common access with specific privileges to the software instance. With a multitenant architecture, a software application is designed to provide every tenant a dedicated share of the instance - including its data, configuration, user management, tenant individual functionality and non-functional properties. Multitenancy contrasts with multi-instance architectures, where separate software instances operate on behalf of different tenants. Some commentators regard multitenancy as an important feature of cloud computing.

Multitenancy
Multitenancy refers to a principle in software architecture where a single instance of the software runs on a server, serving multiple client-organizations. Multitenancy contrasts with multi-instance architectures where separate software instances operate on behalf of different client organizations. With a multitenant architecture, a software application is designed to virtually partition its data and configuration, and each client organization works with a customized virtual application instance. Some commentators regard multitenancy as an important feature of cloud computing. But the software industry does not universally accept or support the principle of multitenancy, and this may be a source of competitive differentiation.
