Wikipedia

  1. Miscommunication

Miscommunication ("mis" + "communication") is defined as a social inability to communicate adequately and properly. It is one of many types of communication barriers. It is an instant where either the speaker is unable to provide the proper and adequate information to the hearer or the hearer misperceived and couldn't recognise the communication from the speaker. The cases of miscommunication vary depending on the situation and persons included in it, but often result in confusion and frustration. In some cases, miscommunication may even open up the triangle of other factors that inevitably leads to a conflict. Miscommunication is a lack of alignment of agents' intellectual state, especially when they diverge on the outcomes of communication. The type of miscommunication can now be classified as to the source of the non-alignment about the communicative act.

Examples of miscommunication in a Sentence

  1. Joe Girardi:

Catch the ball. Just catch the ball, that’s all we need to do. I don’t know what that is. They work every day. They do their stuff. It has to be they’re just not following the ball in their glove, miscommunication. It shouldn’t happen at this level.

  2. Susan Collins:

It certainly shows a breakdown in communications that is troubling because the president is commander in chief and (Defense) Secretary (James) Mattis apparently, according to press reports — I haven't an official briefing on it yet — told him that this carrier and the destroyers were headed towards North Korea as a show of force when in fact they were headed in the completely opposite direction to Australia, and it's troubling if we don't know where our assets are. It's also so surprising. Every time I have seen that map that shows where our naval assets are, believe me, the Pentagon knows exactly where they are. So I suspect there was some sort of just terrible miscommunication but it should not have occurred.

  3. Pat Murphy:

As a former legislator, I know how tricky the endorsement process can be for folks in Iowa, it was never my intention to make my former colleagues uncomfortable, and I apologize for any miscommunication on my part.

  4. New Orleans coach Alvin Gentry:

I really appreciate everything that they did and how hard they played, i thought we kept trying to battle our way back into the game. We just couldn't quite get over the hump. I would say the only negative was at the end when we had some miscommunication on a couple of things. I would not take anything away from this group.

  5. Kenneth Walters:

We understand the disappointment created by this mistake, and deeply apologize to the applicants for this miscommunication.
