Marmota is a genus of rodents, popularly known as marmots. This genus contains most of the species referred to as marmots, including woodchucks and groundhogs. Marmots are generally large squirrels belonging to the family Sciuridae, recognized by their heavy bodies, short legs, and bushy tails. They usually live in mountainous areas, are excellent burrowers and often hibernate during winter.
