Ligger
Lancashire and other north of England hedgelayers use the word ligger for the laid stem in a hedge. In other parts of UK the word pleacher is used. Pleaching and ligging is the skill whereby hedgerow stems are cleaved diagonally through about 80% of their diameter to ground level, allowing them to become flexible enough to lay over at an angle between 30- 45 degrees according to regional style.
