heimdal
Heimdal, also spelled Heimdall, is a figure in Norse mythology often associated with light, purity, and vigilance. As one of the Aesir gods, he serves as the watchman of the gods, guarding the celestial fortress Asgard against the giants. He is portrayed as carrying a trumpet called Gjallarhorn which is blown at the onset of Ragnarok, the end of the world in Norse mythology. Depending on the source, Heimdal is also considered the god of foresight and hearing. His hearing is believed to be so acute that he can hear grass growing on earth and wool growing on sheep.
Wikidata
Heimdal
Heimdal is the southernmost borough in Trondheim, Norway named after the god Heimdall in Norse mythology. The area has been continuously inhabited since at least the Iron Age, and is rich in archaeological sites. The area around the railway station was until 1964 the center of two separate local municipalities, Tiller and Leinstrand. The western part of Heimdal consists of the rural areas of Byneset, also a separate municipality until 1964. The eastern part of Heimdal, Tillerbyen, is a recent development, planned to ease the pressure on central Trondheim from the commercial boom in the city.
