    Drugs that bind to but do not activate GAMMA-AMINOBUTYRIC ACID receptors, thereby blocking the actions of endogenous GAMMA-AMINOBUTYRIC ACID or GAMMA-AMINOBUTYRIC ACID agonists.

    GABA antagonists are drugs which inhibit the action of GABA. In general these drugs produce stimulant and convulsant effects, and are mainly used for counteracting overdoses of sedative drugs. Examples include Bicuculline and Metrazol, and the benzodiazepine GABAA receptor antagonist Flumazenil. Also thujone and muira puama may have properties of GABAA receptor antagonism.
