Wikipedia

  1. Ethnocide

Ethnocide is the extermination of cultures.Reviewing the legal and the academic history of the usage of the terms genocide and ethnocide, Bartolomé Clavero differentiates them by stating that "Genocide kills people while ethnocide kills social cultures through the killing of individual souls". Ethnocide or cultural genocide is possible without a genocide.Because concepts such as cultural genocide and ethnocide have been used in different contexts, the anthropology of genocide examines their inclusion and exclusion in law and policies.

Wikidata

  1. Ethnocide

Ethnocide is a concept related to "genocide" and was designed to use as alternative term to genocide, but does not receive wide adoption as genocide. Although "ethnocide" has been used as a replacement for "cultural genocide", this usage confuses ethnicity and culture. Reviewing the legal and academic history of using the terms between genocide and ethnocide, Bartolomé Clavero maintains that "Genocide kills people while ethnocide kills social cultures through the killing of individual souls". In addition, "since cultural genocide can only be the cultural dimension of genocide", the idea of ethnocide is more than just "cultural genocide", but also part of broader genocidal process. Because concepts such as "cultural genocide" and "ethnocide" has been dropped or picked up in different contexts, the anthropology of genocide also examines such processes of inclusion and exclusion in law and policies.
