Wikipedia

  1. Electro-optics

Electro–optics is a branch of electrical engineering, electronic engineering, materials science, and material physics involving components, electronic devices such as lasers, laser diodes, LEDs, waveguides, etc. which operate by the propagation and interaction of light with various tailored materials. It is closely related to the branch of optics, involving application of generation of photons, called photonics. It is not only concerned with the "electro–optic effect", since it deals with the interaction between the electromagnetic (optical) and the electrical (electronic) states of materials.

Wikidata

  1. Electro-optics

Electro-optics is a branch of technology involving components, devices and systems which operate by modification of the optical properties of a material by an electric field. Thus it concerns the interaction between the electromagnetic and the electrical states of materials.

The Standard Electrical Dictionary

  1. Electro-optics

The branch of natural science treating of the relations between light and electricity. Both are supposed to be phenomena of or due to the luminiferous ether. To it may be referred the following: (a) Electro-magnetic Stress and Magnetic Rotary Polarization; (b) Dielectric Strain; all of which may be referred to in this book; (c) Change in the resistance of a conductor by changes in light to which it is exposed (see Selenium); (d) The relation of the index of refraction of a dielectric to the dielectric constant (see Electro-magnetic Theory of Light); (e) The identity (approximate) of the velocity of light in centimeters and the relative values of the electrostatic and electro-magnet units of intensity, the latter being 30,000,000,000 times greater than the former, while the velocity of light is 30,000,000,000 centimeters per second.

Dictionary of Military and Associated Terms
