    Conde is a title of nobility in Spanish, Galician and Portuguese. In English, the equivalent title is Count or Earl. The female form is Condesa in Spanish and Galician and Condessa in Portuguese. The territory or estate of a Conde is called a Condado, equivalent to Countship or County. The title, however, had different meanings in different historical periods and linguistic contexts. Conde is also a surname known to be from Spain and Portugal. Due to its origins the surname was given to many families related to these condes. It is also a French surname, spelled Condé.
