   I, one of the Brians, offer that a def which I saw stated that it meant Honor and Fidelity. Sounding the syllables, bri/an, its sounds could be related to Lion, a Proud beast, and br. Perhaps related to the hebrew /br/ as in bresheit of Gen 1.1 usage. Perhaps the word-name is far older than you imply. Plus i consider the Israelite dispersions before christ to be when they travelled along n. Africa to Spain, and continued up coast and along mountains... Maybe this is something.
