Wikipedia

  1. Arcus senilis

Arcus senilis (AS), also known as gerontoxon, arcus lipoides, arcus corneae, corneal arcus, arcus adiposus, or arcus cornealis, are rings in the peripheral cornea. It‘s usually caused by cholesterol deposits, so it may be a sign of high cholesterol. It is the most common peripheral corneal opacity, and is usually found in the elderly where it is considered a benign condition. When AS is found in patients less than 50 years old it is termed arcus juvenilis. The finding of arcus juvenilis in combination with hyperlipidemia in younger men represents an increased risk for cardiovascular disease.

  1. arcus senilis

Arcus senilis is an age-related, non-harmful condition manifested as a white, gray, or blue opaque ring around the outer edge of the cornea. This common condition, also known as corneal arcus, usually appears in older adults due to lipid (fat) deposits in the eye. It doesn't impact vision, nor does it require treatment, although it may sometimes indicate high cholesterol levels.

Wikidata

  1. Arcus senilis

Arcus senilis is a white, gray, or blue opaque ring in the corneal margin, or white ring in front of the periphery of the iris. It is present at birth, but then fades; however, it is quite commonly present in the elderly. It can also appear earlier in life as a result of hypercholesterolemia. Arcus senilis can be confused with the limbus sign, which reflects calcium rather than lipid deposits.
