Wikipedia

  1. storming

A storm is any disturbed state of the natural environment or the atmosphere of an astronomical body. It may be marked by significant disruptions to normal conditions such as strong wind, tornadoes, hail, thunder and lightning (a thunderstorm), heavy precipitation (snowstorm, rainstorm), heavy freezing rain (ice storm), strong winds (tropical cyclone, windstorm), wind transporting some substance through the atmosphere such as in a dust storm, among other forms of severe weather. Storms have the potential to harm lives and property via storm surge, heavy rain or snow causing flooding or road impassibility, lightning, wildfires, and vertical and horizontal wind shear. Systems with significant rainfall and duration help alleviate drought in places they move through. Heavy snowfall can allow special recreational activities to take place which would not be possible otherwise, such as skiing and snowmobiling. The English word comes from Proto-Germanic *sturmaz meaning "noise, tumult".Storms are created when a center of low pressure develops with the system of high pressure surrounding it. This combination of opposing forces can create winds and result in the formation of storm clouds such as cumulonimbus. Small localized areas of low pressure can form from hot air rising off hot ground, resulting in smaller disturbances such as dust devils and whirlwinds.

Examples of Storming in a Sentence

  1. John Kennedy:

This meeting was so different from the meeting on health care. It was like night and day. Much more positive. People trying to make this bill better. Nobody's standing up and storming out. Nobody talking about anybody's mama. Nobody's talking about anybody's Native American heritage, he made a commitment to work with us.

  2. Ethan Nordean:

I was part of f ** king storming the Capitol of the most powerful country in the f ** king world.

  3. Julien Barnes-Dacey:

The fact that the UAE was unwilling to cut off ties with Iran completely, despite the closeness of its relations with Saudi Arabia, shows the difficulty that the Saudis will have in trying to isolate Iran, the downgrading of ties is not fundamentally a question of responding to executions and the storming of an embassy... (but rather) a function of a much deeper conflict between the two states.

  4. Rich Bira:

I’ve had that happen, where I was working in my office and it was storming, the LED lights around my TV turned blue, meaning that the water was coming up in my sump pump. I had a few minutes to go and pick everything up so that I could save what I could, and, sure enough, the water came in and there was about an inch on the ground.

  5. Stephen Colbert:

It's predictable why these TV talkers are talking like this on the TV. They want to talk about something other than the January 6th hearings on the actual seditious insurrection that led to the deaths of multiple people, but drawing any equivalence between rioters storming our Capitol to prevent the counting of electoral ballots and a cigar-chomping toy dog is a shameful and grotesque insult to the memory of everyone who died.
