st. matthew
St. Matthew, also known as Matthew the Apostle, is one of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ and one of the four Evangelists in the New Testament of the Christian Bible. He is traditionally regarded as the author of the Gospel of Matthew, although many modern scholars believe this was written by someone else using Matthew’s teachings. Before becoming an apostle, Matthew was a tax collector, which was viewed as a highly sinful profession by the Jews at the time. Following his conversion, he was dedicated in spreading the teachings of Christ. St. Matthew's feast day is celebrated on September 21st in the Western Christian Church and November 16th in the Eastern Orthodox Church.
