Definition of 'QUANTITY'
The Standard Electrical Dictionary
1. QUANTITY This term is used to express arrangements of electrical connections for giving the largest quantity of current, as a quantity armature, meaning one wound for low resistance.
The term is now virtually obsolete (Daniell); "in surface," "in parallel," or "in multiple arc" is used.
2. QUANTITY Electro-magnetic. Quantity is determined electro-magnetically by the measurement of currentintensity for a second of time: its dimensions are therefore given by multiplying intensity or currentstrength by time. The dimensions of intensity are ( (M^.5) * (L^.5) ) / T therefore the dimensions of electro-magnetic quantity are ( ( (M^.5) * (L^.5) ) / T ) * T = ( (M^.5) * (L^.5) )
Sense: the size, weight, number etc of something, especially a large size etc What quantity of paper do you need?; I buy these goods in quantity; a small quantity of cement; large quantities of tinned food.
