    It is my maiden name. I was told growing up that it means stolen one or hidden one. The story was told that the queen or princess (I can't remember which) had an illegitimate baby and they took her from him. He was raised on Madeira Island. This is where my great-grandfather was born and raised. He came to America in 1905, I believe.
