Ben Sira
Ben Sira also known as Shimon ben Yeshua ben Eliezer ben Sira (Hebrew: שמעון בן יהושע בן אליעזר בן סירא) or Yeshua Ben Sirach (fl. 2nd century BCE), was a Hellenistic Jewish scribe, sage, and allegorist from Seleucid-controlled Jerusalem of the Second Temple period. He is the author of Sirach, also known as the "Book of Ecclesiasticus". He wrote his work in Hebrew, possibly in Alexandria in Egypt in the Ptolemaic Kingdom c. 180–175 BCE, where he is thought to have established a school. While Ben Sira is sometimes claimed to be a contemporary of Simeon the Just, it is more likely that his contemporary was High Priest Simon II (219–199 BCE) and this is due to confusion with his father, Yeshua'.A medieval text, the Alphabet of Sirach, was falsely attributed to him.

Ben Sira
According to Jewish apocrypha, Ben Sira was the son of Yirmiyahu’s daughter who became pregnant in the bathhouse from her father Yirmiyahu’s seed. As such, Ben Sira is mentioned by Rishonim and Acharonim with regard to halakhic discussion of the possibility of become pregnant without intercourse, the questions of whether the sperm contributor is considered his father and whether the offspring of parents who are forbidden relations to each other but who are conceived without intercourse are mamzerim, and the permissibility of in-vitro fertilization. He is also of interest because he was the grandfather of Shimon ben Yeshua ben Eliezer ben Sira, the author of the Wisdom of Sirach and possibly the Alphabet of Sirach. Record seekers have written that because he was born from the absorption of semen without intercourse he was called Ben-Zer`a, and when he grew up he was embarrassed by this name and changed it to Ben Sira, which is the gematria equivalent of Yirmiyahu.
