The Anasazi were prehistoric Native American people who lived in the American Southwest from around 100 BC to 1300 AD. They are known for developing an Ancient Pueblo culture marked by great architectural achievements, most notably multistory cliff dwellings and irrigation systems. The term Anasazi, of Navajo origin, means 'ancient enemy' or 'ancient ones'. They are the ancestors of several modern Pueblo Indian tribes. The Anasazi mysteriously disappeared in the 13th century, leaving behind fascinating ruins, ceramics, and other artifacts.
